Solano County, located northeast of San Francisco and southwest of Sacramento, is bordered in the south by the San Pablo Bay, Carquinez Strait, Suisun Bay, Grizzly Bay, and the Sacramento River, giving residents and visitors plenty of water access for boating, sailing, fishing and more.

Boasting its own parks and attractions such as Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Mare Island Historic Park, the Western Railway Museum, Naval & History Museum, Benicia State Recreation Area, Sandy Beach Campground and Park, golf courses and Vacaville Premium Outlets shopping center, Solano County also borders the world-renowned Napa Valley wine region and is a quick day-trip away from Lake Tahoe, San Francisco, Redwood forests and the Pacific Coast.

One of the more affordable housing markets throughout the Bay Area, Solano County is becoming a popular destination for those wishing to settle in to this region. Commuters can easily catch the Capitol Corridor train, which runs between San Jose and Colfax, with convenient stops along the route throughout the county.

Fairfield is the county seat and the home to Travis Air Force Base, contributing to its ranking as the second largest town in the county by population. Some additional cities and towns in Solano County include Vallejo (largest by population), Vacaville, Suisun City, Benicia, Dixon, Rio Vista and Allendale. Other small towns in the county host farms, vineyards and ranches, including a large wind farm near Birds Landing for renewable energy generation.
