Rutherford

article slide

Just two miles north of Oakville lies its sister town Rutherford. Quaint, with sprawling vineyards and wineries housed in historic stone buildings, it is situated at the heart of the Napa Valley. At this point in the valley, the golden rolling hills in summer, which turn to a lush verdant green in winter, start to resemble Provence or Tuscany.

The Rutherford Appellation is known for its Rutherford Dust Cabernets—the most widely planted grape variety which produces rich, flavorful wines with a unique texture and flavor. Only 6,650 acres, this Appellation houses several world-renowned and historic wineries, such as Rutherford Hill Winery, Quintessa, Inglenook Winery, Beaulieu Vineyards and Raymond Vineyards.

Rutherford is also home to one of the country’s most prestigious luxury resorts and restaurants, Auberge du Soleil, located in the hills east of town with an enveloping view of the valley below.
