Richmond

article slide

A diverse city incorporated in 1905, Richmond lies at the western end of Contra Costa County, across the bay from San Francisco. With the locally iconic Richmond-San Rafael Bridge connecting the East Bay to Marin County, both the San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay envelop this city on three sides. It’s expansive waterfront made the location ideal for shipyards, such as the Kaiser Richmond Shipyards, during the WWII era, when this city experienced a boom in jobs and population.

The city pays tribute to its past with the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front and Memorial Park, where visitors can meet real WWII home front workers, visit the last surviving ship built in the shipyard mentioned above, and walk along the Memorial project with its sculpture honoring the WWII American Women’s Labor movement.

Richmond today is still an area of growth, playing an important role in business and industrial expansion, as well as maritime services and attractions like its Tradewinds Sailing School & Club. Residential communities are plentiful: Point Richmond, Marina Bay, Coronado, Brickyard Cove, Atchison Village, Iron Triangle, Carriage Hills and many more. Residents can take also advantage of the Bay Area climate outdoors at the Miller/Knox Shoreline park, Point Pinole Regional Shoreline park, Bay Vista Park and Alvarado Park to name a few.
